Black Thorn won its first prize in the 2011 and 2012 Penang State Durian Competition, and was certified as D200 was by MARDI in 2013. More recently, the Black Thorn has gained more recognitions, winning the World Durian Championship in 2022 and surpassing even the well-known Musang King.
Despite our success, we strive to improve our farm continually. We use agricultural technology to enhance soil conditions, which is crucial for producing high-quality fruit. Additionally, we plan to transition to a fully organic farm in the future.

Our durian farm has been in operation since 1988, covering 100 acres of land near Bandar Baharu town in Kedah state. The farm is situated on a 300-meter hill terrain, where we have planted a diverse range of durian clones, including Red Prawn, Hor Loh, Tek Kah, Ang Bak Bia, D24, Musang King, Heng Special, and more. However, this approach proved to be challenging due to inconsistencies in yield and quality, which cost us time and capital.
Fortunately, we discovered the original Black Thorn mother tree near Sungai Bakap in Penang, which was highly sought after, with a waiting list spanning years. After tasting the fruit, we knew it was the one, and we transformed our farm from a multi-clone to a single-clone farm, with Black Thorn being the only clone.
